Grids have a long history in the digital arts as a means of organizing media.
When designing, climates can incorporate asymmetry on top of a grid to make the design interesting.
An example of responsive layout is the grid changing depending on the output. For example, information may be presented as a list on a website with small images for icons, but once the user clicks or hovers their mouse over the icon, the page changes to show more information in a different layout on the screen.
